The registration for the $5,000 Alfresco Restart package is still open for New South Wales businesses until 30 April 2022 or once 5,000 businesses have successfully registered. 

“We’re providing 5,000 hospitality businesses a $5,000 grant to get their outdoor dining venture off the ground — whether that’s to help set-up curb-side dining or a pub-style courtyard, we’re here to turn their ideas into reality,” said Minister for Digital and Customer Service Victor Dominello.

This grant is a part of the $66 million Alfresco Restart Package initiated by the state government to support the hospitality, arts, and music sectors get back on their feet after a four-month lockdown.


Are you eligible?

Your business can apply for the $5,000 rebate if you meet the following criteria:

  • A business located in NSW with an active Australian Business Number (ABN) held before 1 June 2021 (one application per ABN only) 
  • Annual turnover less than $10,000 for the year ending 30 June 2021
  • A small to medium food and beverage business under at least one of these ANZSIC codes:
    • 1212 Beer Manufacturing
    • 1213 Spirit Manufacturing
    • 1214 Wine and other Alcoholic Beverage Manufacturing
    • 4400 Accommodation (hotel and/or motel operations only)
    • 4511 Cafés and restaurants
    • 4520 Pubs, taverns and bars
    • 4530 Clubs (hospitality)
  • Have incurred or will incur acceptable costs and expenses for opening or expanding your alfresco areas from 14 October 2021 to 30 April 2022. 

Aside from the abovementioned criteria, you may also need the following to claim your rebate:

  • Approval for the liquor license boundary changes
  • Development approval and approval to use the land from the appropriate office.

If you qualify for this Alfresco Restart package, you can register online by following the instructions on this webpage

Make sure to prepare your MyServiceNSW account, provide two proof of identity documents and your valid ABN. 

You can also call Service NSW at 13 77 88 if you’re having difficulties registering online. 


When to claim your rebate

If you successfully registered, you can expect to claim your rebate commencing in late February 2022 for all eligible expenses incurred from 14 October 2021 to 30 April 2022.

Keep in mind that you may have to provide photo evidence of your receipts and invoices related to your eligible expenses.


Other initiatives

Aside from the $5,000 grants and temporary alfresco extension, the initiative also covers:

  • The Festival of Place – includes the Long Summer Nights Program at the Rocks, Darling Harbour and The Domain, Streets as Shared Spaces Program, Summer Night Fund Program and Open Streets Program
  • Permanent outdoor dining as an exempt development for pubs and small bars state-wide.
  • Emergency temporary alfresco measures for outdoor dining in parks or on private land with the owner’s consent
